The Planning Commission is an advisory body consisting of seven Monrovia residents appointed by the City Council for a three year term. The Commission oversees new development in the City to ensure that it complies with the City's General Plan and Zoning Ordinance and has the authority to approve conditional use permits, variances, parcel maps and hillside development permits. As an advisory body to the City Council, they review and make recommendations on applications for tract maps, amendments to the Zoning Ordinance, Subdivision Ordinance and the General Plan.
